If I put the boot disc in my computer will I lose my email contacts and email on BT Internet?

I was going to back all the stuff I want up onto CD today and then once thats done, stick in the boot disc and clear everything off and start again. I have so much rubbish that I've downloaded and don't use etc that my computer is now running slower. However, my missus is now worried that if I do this, I am going to wipe off her important email from her BT Internet account and her contact list. Not very good with computers so is this true? Anyone help? Thanks in advance.

your computer will go back to factory settings.Just log in to btinternet with user name and password this will bring you back to all your old files
Reply:just make sure you back everything up before you reinstall, i didnt on one occasion and had to start putting things back on from scratch which took a full day. dont want to put a downer on the subject but its better to be safe than sorry
Reply:yes as you are formatting back to factoy standard the computer you own . the boot disc will clean the hard drive to this factory standard but any accounts like yahoo etc it wont clear them your account it still logged with themand can be reaccessed by typing in passwords and user ids. just you gotta remember and re download all chat clients etc and programmes you did use before .
Reply:You'll lose only that mail that you'd downloaded by your Outlook or Pegasus mail or other e-Mail Client and dleleted in the BT Server.





Otherwise, you'll lose nothing important.





To check what's there and what's not, log into your BT Account using the Internet Explorerer and check the contents of the Inbox. If you find the important mail has been deleted there, then make a copy of the mail that's in your comp and put it on a floppy or burn a CD to back it up.





Now, you can safely format the disc and reinstall everything.

Internet is fine, but I cannot access any email services?

My internet service has been working fine in the past. Today, while the internet works in general, I cannot access any of my email services including Yahoo, Gmail, or Hotmail. Also, Skype is not working either. What could be the possible explanation for this? I live in Lebanon where all internet access is controlled by the a single national provider.

sounds like a security issue with a firewall or port setting. The www uses certain ports to access information and email uses different ports. That is why you may be able to get online ok but not use email services.





Check your security software and firewall settings. You may have had updates recently that may have effected your settings.
